class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A registered education savings plan, or RESP, is:<\/p><ul><li>a convenient way to save for future post-secondary education of a child, yourself, or another person;<\/li><li>a tax\u2011assisted education savings plan (ESP), registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to encourage investing for post\u2011secondary education; and<\/li><li>a contract between the subscriber and a promoter (sometimes referred to as provider).<\/li><\/ul><p>Under the contract, the subscriber names one or more beneficiaries (the future student(s)) and agrees to make contributions for them. The promoter agrees to pay educational assistance payments (EAPs) to the beneficiaries of the plan.<\/p><p>Contributions to an RESP are not tax deductible, but the investment in the plan will grow tax deferred until it is withdrawn for a post-secondary educational program. In addition, there are grants and incentives available from the Government of Canada and certain provinces to enhance investment for beneficiaries under the age of 18.<\/p><p>Contributors do not receive a tax deduction for investments in an RESP. The federal government offers two incentive programs: the Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) and the Canada Learning Bond (CLB).\u00a0 Some provinces have also introduced incentive programs.<a
